Chery QQ will return with a new look
Chery is bringing back its QQ hatchback series, which was discontinued in 2014 due to suboptimal sales. On April 3rd, Li Xueyong, deputy general manager of Chery Automobile, released the official images of the Chery QQ concept car, which will be unveiled at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show later this month.
Chery initially positioned the QQ series as "the first car for young people" and launched the first model QQ3 in 2003, followed by QQ6 and QQme. At its peak, the sales of the QQ series exceeded 40,000 units in the first year of its launch, and the monthly sales exceeded 10,000 units in 2005, with cumulative sales exceeding 1.4 million units.
Now, more than 20 years later since 2003, the new concept car adopts a more modern look with a black and white exterior, a round body, a closed grille on the front, a new “Qq” logo, and geometric headlights. From the side, the car is equipped with digital side mirrors, no door handles, and “+” shape rims that echo the black and white body. The ‘Qq’ logo also appears behind the C-pillar and the ‘Chery Design’ label is marked on the side skirt.

Coming to the rear, the layout resembles that of the front face, combined with a high-mounted brake light.
In the 10 years since the Chery QQ series was discontinued, mini EVs are becoming increasingly popular in China due to their affordable price tag. Do you think now is a good time for Chery to bring back its QQ series to compete against models such as SGMW’s Wuling Hongguang Mini EV and Geely Geome’s Xingyuan?
