General Motors' quarterly growth rate in China hits a four-year high

GM achieved its fastest quarterly sales growth in four years thanks to its expanding new energy product lineup and strong performance of its best-selling main models.

In the second quarter, GM's retail sales in the Chinese market exceeded 440,000 vehicles, achieving year-on-year growth for the second consecutive quarter, with a growth rate of 20%, the largest single-quarter year-on-year increase since the first quarter of 2021.

Expanding the layout of the new energy market

In the second quarter, GM's total sales of new energy vehicles in China increased by 50% year-on-year. Its pure electric (BEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and extended-range electric (EREV) products have formed the most diverse and extensive new energy product lineup among international vehicle companies in China.

With the launch of Buick's new high-end new energy sub-brand "Zhijing" in the second quarter, the locally developed "Xiaoyao" super fusion architecture will comprehensively deploy three major technical paths: pure electric, plug-in hybrid, and extended-range electric, covering all mainstream price ranges, further accelerating GM's new energy product sales growth.

Strengthening core product advantages

In the second quarter, the Buick GL8 family welcomed the new GL8 Land Business Class and GL8 Lu Shang, while expanding the new energy market layout and consolidating its leading position in the MPV segment, with total sales of nearly 34,000 units, an increase of about 70% year-on-year.

As GM's core products in China, the Envision family and LaCrosse achieved a three-fold and more than two-fold year-on-year growth in the second quarter respectively.

Cadillac XT5 sales increased by 60% year-on-year, strengthening GM's position in the luxury SUV segment.

Wuling Hongguang MINIEV ranks first in GM's new energy product sales in China, with more than 84,000 units delivered in the second quarter, of which nearly 60% came from the four-door version launched at the beginning of this year. Wuling Bingo and Bingo PLUS continued to sell well, with total sales of more than 47,000 units, an increase of more than 20% year-on-year.
