Huawei Aito M7 to be facelifted in China
Aito M7 Set for Major Design Refresh Amid Sales Decline
The Aito M7, a large extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) crossover developed by Huawei and Seres, is set to receive a significant facelift in China.
This design update aims to bring the M7 more in line with the flagship Aito M9 SUV, and to reverse declining sales, which dropped by 72.9% year-on-year from January to April 2025.
Aito M7 Sales Performance and Market Position
In 2024, the Aito M7 emerged as a volume seller, with 193,342 units sold.
However, the first four months of 2025 saw a steep sales decline, triggering the need for a strategic refresh to revive interest in the model.
Spy Shots Reveal New Exterior Features
Recent spy photos captured during road tests in China revealed key design changes to the facelifted Aito M7, despite camouflage:
-
Sharper headlights, resembling those on the Aito M9
-
Retractable door handles for improved aerodynamics
-
10-spoke alloy rims
-
Minimalist front bumper for a cleaner appearance
These updates signal an effort to align the M7’s aesthetics with Huawei’s latest design language.
Exterior Dimensions Remain Unchanged
While the front end has been redesigned, the greenhouse structure (between the A- and C-pillars) remains unchanged.
This indicates the vehicle dimensions are expected to stay at:
-
Length: 5,020 mm
-
Width: 1,945 mm
-
Height: 1,760 mm
-
Wheelbase: 2,820 mm
The refreshed M7 also features a LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof, suggesting potential updates in autonomous driving or ADAS capabilities.
Interior Enhancements: More Practical and Premium
Interior spy shots indicate a number of updates:
-
Gear shifter relocated to the steering column
-
Center tunnel redesigned to include dual wireless charging pads and two cup holders
-
Speakers integrated into the A-pillars
-
Two-spoke steering wheel and a large central touchscreen
-
Slim LCD instrument panel for a minimalist, modern feel
These interior refinements improve both functionality and driver comfort.
Powertrain Updates May Align with Aito M8
While not officially confirmed, it’s possible that Huawei and Seres may also update the M7’s powertrain, bringing it closer to the Aito M8 specifications:
-
1.5-liter turbocharged generator with 118 kW (158 hp)
-
4WD option offering up to 392 kW (526 hp)
If implemented, this would give the Aito M7 a more competitive edge in the EREV SUV market.
Conclusion: Can the Aito M7 Make a Comeback?
The refreshed Aito M7 reflects Huawei and Seres’ effort to reinvigorate the model with updated styling and tech improvements.
With enhancements both inside and out—and potential powertrain upgrades—the M7 may be well-positioned to regain momentum in China’s competitive new energy vehicle (NEV) market.
