Iraq Becomes a New Market for Chinese Cars

Iraq is transitioning from a "post-war reconstruction market" to an "emerging consumer market." Chinese brands have already secured a leading position, but the real competition has only just begun...

According to a recent report released in July by Iraq Al-Mustaqbal, a prominent Iraqi economic research institute, Iraq's imports of Chinese cars will exceed 18,000 units in the first half of 2025, a year-on-year increase of nearly 80%, far exceeding the approximately 10,000 units imported in the same period last year. This strong growth signals the accelerating penetration of Chinese car brands in the Iraqi market.

Chinese Cars Sweep the Middle East: Total Exports Soar 65%

The report further indicates that in the first six months of 2025, China's total automobile exports to the Middle East reached 584,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 65%, with a total export value of US$7.7 billion, a significant increase from US$4.5 billion in the same period in 2024.

Among the major importing countries:
The UAE ranked first with 221,000 vehicles; Saudi Arabia ranked second with 123,000 vehicles; Turkey (91,000 vehicles) followed closely behind; and Iraq led the region with over 18,000 vehicles imported, demonstrating stable and continuously growing local demand.

Jordan emerged as a "dark horse": imports surged by nearly 962%.

Notably, Jordan became the fastest-growing market in the region, importing over 23,000 Chinese vehicles in the first half of 2025, a year-on-year surge of nearly 962% (compared to only approximately 2,000 vehicles in the same period of 2024), reflecting the explosive growth potential of Chinese brands in small and medium-sized markets.

The Rise of Electric Vehicles: Accounting for 10% of Total Exports to the Middle East, with the UAE Leading the Way

New energy vehicles are becoming a new growth engine for China's exports to the Middle East. In the first half of 2025, Chinese electric vehicle exports to the Middle East reached 58,400, accounting for 10% of total exports.

Major electric vehicle importing countries:

UAE: 25,000 units; Turkey: 20,000 units; Jordan: 15,000 units.

Globally, China's electric vehicle exports have reached 750,000 units, with Belgium as the largest overseas market, importing over 100,000 units, highlighting that Europe remains an important springboard for Chinese electric vehicles.

Future Outlook: Exports to the Middle East are expected to exceed one million units in 2025.

Driven by continued market demand and competitive pricing, China's total auto exports to the Middle East are expected to exceed one million units in 2025. The proportion of electric vehicles will continue to grow, becoming a key driver of the region's green transformation.
