Volkswagen released three electric concept cars-ID. AURA sedan, ID. ERA SUV and ID. EVO SUV
Volkswagen electric vehicles were unveiled at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, namely FAW-Volkswagen ID.AURA, SAIC Volkswagen ID.ERA and Anhui Volkswagen ID.EVO.
The three concept cars were jointly developed by Chinese and German teams to meet the growing demand of Chinese consumers for more expressive designs. While showing the differentiated style of each joint venture, they maintain a clear brand identity:
ID. AURA (FAW-Volkswagen): A compact electric sedan concept car built on the new China-exclusive CMP platform, aimed at users who pursue modern aesthetics and smart technology. Its design emphasizes "dynamic", "youthful" and "family" attributes, with smooth aerodynamic design, sporty body posture and unique "Lilac Breeze" multi-tone paint. The interior focuses on minimalist aesthetics and practicality, and is equipped with a new CEA E/E architecture, supporting L2++ ADAS and AI virtual assistants with customizable operating systems.
ID. ERA (SAIC Volkswagen): Volkswagen's first extended-range full-size SUV concept car, designed for users who pursue excellent design and high-quality travel (family/business). It presents an image of "grandness", "simpleness" and "power". Highlights include a spacious six-seat layout (it is said that a seven-seat version may be launched), equipped with a second row of "executive seats", thanks to its extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) system and active air intake system, a comprehensive range of more than 1,000 kilometers (CLTC), L2++ urban trouble-free driving (NOA), and an artificial intelligence assistant based on a large Chinese language model.
ID. EVO (Volkswagen Anhui Branch): It is reported that ID. EVO is a full-size pure electric (BEV) SUV concept car, the result of in-depth cooperation between Volkswagen and Xiaopeng Motors through the Anhui Branch, designed to meet the needs of young urban users who pursue a diversified lifestyle. Described as “unconventional”, “bold” and “avant-garde”, its design features striking proportions, short overhangs, sculptural surfaces and a striking “Fjord Blue” paint inspired by the Aurora. It has an all-electric range of more than 700 km (CLTC), 800V ultra-fast charging, a customizable 3D virtual assistant, L2++ Urban NOA autonomous driving system, and more than 100 controllable exterior LED lights for dynamic light effects.
“The ID. EVO, ID. ERA and ID. AURA concept cars are designed specifically for the Chinese market and fully reflect our philosophy of integrating Chinese user needs, creating diversified products and forward-looking technologies,” Mecha explained.
The production versions of these concept cars are scheduled to be launched in 2026, further demonstrating Volkswagen’s commitment to providing competitive high-tech vehicles while upholding the core values of brand safety and quality in the all-important Chinese market.
