Where are nearly 5 million "Chinese cars" sold?

According to customs statistics, in the first 10 months of this year, Haitong Terminal in Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port exported 1.077 million cars, a year-on-year increase of 28.8%, breaking the million mark two months earlier than last year. Among them, 487,000 electric passenger cars were exported, a year-on-year increase of 65%.

The lively scene of automobile exports at Shanghai Port is just a microcosm of this year's automobile exports. In 2023, my country exported 4.91 million cars, becoming the world's largest automobile exporter. In the first 10 months of this year, automobile exports were close to last year's full-year exports. According to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (hereinafter referred to as "CAAM"), from January to October, automobile exports were 4.855 million, a year-on-year increase of 23.8%.

 

In recent years, with the improvement of China's automobile brand power and the rise of new energy vehicles, Latin America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia have become important automobile export destinations. In 2023, my country exported 4.91 million cars, becoming the world's largest automobile exporter. In the first 10 months of this year, the export volume of automobiles has been close to the export volume of the whole year of last year. From January to October, automobile exports reached 4.855 million units, a year-on-year increase of 23.8%.

 

While automobile exports have grown rapidly, the average export price has also increased. According to data released by the Passenger Car Market Information Joint Branch (hereinafter referred to as "CPCA"), the average export price of automobiles in 2021 will be US$16,000, the average export price in 2022 will be US$18,000, and it will rise to US$19,000 in 2023. The average export price this year is US$19,000, which is almost the same as the average price last year.

 

Chery, SAIC Group, Changan, Geely and other auto companies are major Chinese auto exporters. Chery Holding Group expects that the annual export volume will exceed one million vehicles for the first time in the first 11 months of this year. Data shows that in the first 10 months of this year, the group's cumulative export sales of automobiles reached 941,300 units, a year-on-year increase of 23.8%. Affected by the EU's additional tariffs, from January to October this year, SAIC Group exported a total of 843,300 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 11.15%.

 

According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, Changan, Geely, Great Wall, BYD and BAIC exported 467,000, 451,000, 369,000, 332,000 and 218,000 vehicles respectively from January to October.
